Nalaxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, is a nasal spray used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Used virtually every day to save lives, Narcan is one of the key tools of harm reduction.
Bystanders play a vital role in reducing overdoses by carrying Narcan or accessing it in public places. Many first responders — police, firefighters, and EMTs — also carry Narcan, keeping them prepared for when they encounter overdoses in the field.
Opioid rescue kits including Narcan have been installed in public buildings and are available to businesses concerned about employees or customers who may be at risk. Naloxboxes make Narcan acessible to the general public at convenient locations around the City of Northampton.

A NaloxBox holds free, readily available Narcan. Each Naloxbox contains multiple, prepackaged single doses of naloxone. Anyone can open the Naloxbox, remove the Narcan, and either take with them as a harm reduction tool, or administer it immediately to a person who is overdosing or suspected of overdosing on opioids.
